Trust-Based Philanthropy Learning Session

We welcome Shaady Salehi, Director of the Trust-Based Philanthropy Project, to SV2 for an informal presentation and discussion on the values and principles of Trust-Based Philanthropy.

Trust-Based Philanthropy is about addressing the inherent power imbalances between foundations and nonprofits. At its core, trust-based philanthropy is about redistributing power—systemically, organizationally, and interpersonally—in service of a healthier and more equitable nonprofit sector. How we Kept it Real and Got Close in a Virtual World

The term ‘social distance’ is likely tiring for many of us. A more accurate term could be ‘physical distance’. We know the challenges that different populations face in a virtual world from the mental health crisis to equitable technology access and loss of learning for children; at SV2, we had to re-think meaningful community engagement. In this article, we recap how it went and key takeaways.

Kera Greene is a nonprofit fundraising leader and Bill Greene is a biotech CEO. Their main investments and interests are in women's rights, health rights, education, and food security. Kera and Bill have both served as board members to nonprofit organizations in the past.






 

Lakshmi Karanth is a strategic leader with over 15 years of experience at the intersection of business operations, marketing, digital strategy, and consumer-tech at Apple, Microsoft, Google, and GE. She takes a data-driven, consumer-first, collaborative approach to driving global results. Lakshmi now focuses on leveraging her skills and experience to drive strategic impact in the nonprofit/tech for good sector. She is passionate about women's empowerment and girls’ education.

We invite prospective SV2 Partners for an informal conversation with some more seasoned Partners. Learn about how SV2 works, ways to engage, learn and lead within the SV2 community, and share what you are hoping for from your SV2 experience as you explore our community.

Impact Investing Working Group

The SV2 Impact Investing Working Group discusses prospective impact investment opportunities, hears pitches from social entrepreneurs, and performs due diligence in order to make informed investment recommendations on behalf of SV2. The Working Group is comprised of Partners who are committed to actively participating in all aspects of impact investing, including the due diligence process. All Partners are welcome to begin regularly attending IIWG meetings at any point in the year or are welcome to audit meetings on a drop-in basis.

Family Philanthropy Interest Circle

The Family Philanthropy Interest Circle is a Partner-led group which provides a safe space to explore personal experiences, successes, and challenges in an ongoing, intimate setting. If you are a current Partner with a family foundation, a donor advised fund, family office, or some other structured family giving vehicle, please join us. This event is for current Partners only, and led by Lisa Guerra and Anjana Patel. Reach out with questions to Lisa Guerra.

Reimagining Education Equity in the COVID Recovery | Grant Round Meeting #5

At Meeting #5, Partners will discuss the three finalist organizations using SV2’s rubric categories (in breakout groups and as a whole group), and make grant decisions. Note that for this grant decision meeting, Partners must be present at the Zoom meeting to vote.

TUES. JUN. 15 | 1:00PM - 3:30PM

SV2 Grantee / Community Partner Updates and Funding Renewals

This meeting is open to all SV2 Partners to listen only, and is led by SV2's Grantmaking and Impact Investment Review Committee. Come learn about our community's successes, opportunities, and impact! After a quick summary, you'll hear an update from Lead Partners about how our current Grantees / Community Partners are doing, their strengths, challenges, and ways to support: Center for Youth Wellness, ICA, One Life Counseling, Partnership for Children & Youth, SV@Home, Upward Scholars, and Working Partnerships USA. The Committee will then meet in closed session to make a decision about funding renewals which will be communicated with the organizations and all Partners soon afterwards.
