About this event

Please RSVP by Thursday, Feb. 24th 2022.

Let’s get together and be in community with our dedicated and determined Tenderloin neighbors. Del Seymour, member of the Tenderloin community for the past 30 years, community leader and Founder of Code Tenderloin, will lead us through a walking tour of the neighborhood. We’ll have boxed lunch together with some students who participate in Code Tenderloin’s programs and get to know each other better. We’ll then do job ready-ness volunteering with the students - e.g. resume reviews and mock interview prep.

Note: This event is planned to be in-person in the Tenderloin neighborhood of San Francisco. It is capped at 30 SV2 members. There will also be Code Tenderloin students and staff. Some parts will be outside (most of the tour) and some parts will be inside (volunteering).

To attend this in-person event, SV2 requires that all participants:

  1. Are fully vaccinated and boosted at least two weeks before the event. Bring proof of vaccination to the event - e.g. vaccination card.
  2. Get tested and show proof of a negative COVID test within 3 DAYS of the event. Bring proof of negative test to the event - e.g. a photo of an at home test, email or document from lab test.
  3. Bring a mask and wear a mask when indoors. We strongly encourage use of much more reliable masks than cloth masks - e.g. N95, KN95, KF94, double mask.

And of course, please just don't come if you are experiencing any symptoms!

SV2 will follow all guidelines set by the CDC. If our public health situation is not conducive to an in-person event safely, we will change the format accordingly and pivot to doing this online on Zoom. We aim to give as much advanced notice as possible.

More about Del in his own words:

I spent 18 years being homeless, addicted to and selling drugs. I got my life together, I worked on bridging the gap between this community, other communities, and people coming to Tenderloin, so we could get to know each other better.

The government and media misaligned who we are and other communities are. There are people living two miles away who have no idea who we are.

We had a big scare 8 years ago, when the international tech industry decided to make the Tenderloin their new global home. People in the Tenderloin were terrified that the tech industry would take their homes. The tech industry was afraid that they would be robbed walking the streets. Neither of those things have ever happened. It has turned out to be a wonderful collaboration between those two populations.

As the Unofficial Mayor of the Tenderloin, I along with the Code Tenderloin team spend half of our day in the tech community, working to bridge the gap socially, economically, and emotionally while we dedicate the rest of our day in the Tenderloin community.

Founded in 2015, Code Tenderloin focuses on the lack of workforce development by first removing barriers and addressing the digital divide that keep people from securing long-term employment such as finances, legal, soft skills, childcare, transportation, and education. Based in the Tenderloin neighborhood in San Francisco, Code Tenderloin prepares participants to succeed in the workplace, and connects local businesses, major tech companies, and nonprofits with the right candidates for long-term job placement.

Code Tenderloin was selected as a Community Partner in SV2’s 2021 Economic Inclusion Grant Round. This co-created Get Proximate experience is one of our initial steps in strong trust and relationship building together.

SV2 Partners, join us! Lean into what will surely be a connective and insightful experience together.

More details will be shared with all who RSVP.
